2. Hosting and server logs
The website runs on servers I rent from Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, located in the EU. Hetzner acts as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR on the basis of a data processing agreement and has no access to the content.
When you open a page, the web server records a log line containing your IP address, date and time, the requested address, the referring page if your browser sends one, your browser's user-agent string, the response status and the transferred size. I use these logs to operate the site, to detect and fend off attacks, and to fix errors.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in a secure and working website. The logs are rotated weekly and deleted after 8 weeks at the latest. They are not merged with other data and not passed on to anyone.
2. Hosting und Server-Logs
Die Website läuft auf Servern, die ich bei der Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, miete; Standort in der EU. Hetzner ist Auftragsverarbeiter nach Art. 28 DSGVO auf Grundlage eines Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrags und hat keinen Zugriff auf die Inhalte.
Beim Aufruf einer Seite speichert der Webserver eine Protokollzeile mit Ihrer IP-Adresse, Datum und Uhrzeit, der aufgerufenen Adresse, der verweisenden Seite, sofern Ihr Browser sie mitsendet, der User-Agent-Kennung Ihres Browsers, dem Antwortstatus und der übertragenen Datenmenge. Ich nutze diese Logs, um die Seite zu betreiben, Angriffe zu erkennen und abzuwehren und Fehler zu beheben.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, mein berechtigtes Interesse an einer sicheren und funktionierenden Website. Die Logs werden wöchentlich rotiert und spätestens nach 8 Wochen gelöscht. Sie werden nicht mit anderen Daten zusammengeführt und nicht weitergegeben.
3. Contact form
If you use the contact form, I process the name and e-mail address you enter, your message and the time of sending. The form delivers this as an e-mail to my own mail server, which I also host myself on the infrastructure described above. It is kept in my mailbox for as long as our correspondence requires and deleted afterwards, unless I am legally required to keep it.
The form itself stores nothing permanently. For spam protection it keeps, for at most one hour, a count of submissions per client under a cryptographic hash of the IP address, and for at most ten minutes a hash that ties the captcha to the client. Neither can be turned back into an IP address. The captcha is generated on my server; no third-party service is involved. The form uses no cookies and no JavaScript.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your message is about a possible contract with me, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in answering enquiries and in keeping the form free of abuse. Providing the data is voluntary; without it I cannot reply. The blog has no contact form.
3. Kontaktformular
Wenn Sie das Kontaktformular nutzen, verarbeite ich den eingegebenen Namen, die E-Mail-Adresse, Ihre Nachricht und den Sendezeitpunkt. Das Formular übermittelt diese Angaben als E-Mail an meinen eigenen Mailserver, den ich ebenfalls selbst auf der oben beschriebenen Infrastruktur betreibe. Die E-Mail bleibt in meinem Postfach, solange unser Schriftwechsel es erfordert, und wird danach gelöscht, sofern keine gesetzliche Aufbewahrungspflicht besteht.
Das Formular selbst speichert nichts dauerhaft. Zum Schutz vor Spam hält es für höchstens eine Stunde einen Zähler der Absendungen je Client unter einem kryptografischen Hash der IP-Adresse und für höchstens zehn Minuten einen Hash, der das Captcha an den Client bindet. Beides lässt sich nicht in eine IP-Adresse zurückrechnen. Das Captcha wird auf meinem Server erzeugt; es ist kein Drittanbieter beteiligt. Das Formular verwendet weder Cookies noch JavaScript.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO, soweit es um einen möglichen Vertrag mit mir geht, sonst Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, mein berechtigtes Interesse an der Beantwortung von Anfragen und an einem missbrauchsfreien Formular. Die Angaben sind freiwillig; ohne sie kann ich nicht antworten. Der Blog hat kein Kontaktformular.
4. E-mail
If you write to me by e-mail, the same applies as for the contact form: your message is stored on my own mail server for as long as the correspondence requires. Transport encryption is used whenever your mail provider supports it. If you want end-to-end encryption, my GPG key is linked above.

Wenn Sie mir per E-Mail schreiben, gilt dasselbe wie beim Kontaktformular: Ihre Nachricht liegt auf meinem eigenen Mailserver, solange der Schriftwechsel es erfordert. Transportverschlüsselung wird genutzt, wann immer Ihr Anbieter sie unterstützt. Für Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung ist oben mein GPG-Schlüssel verlinkt.
5. No cookies, no tracking, no third parties
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no fonts, scripts, images or other resources from third-party servers. Pages link to external sites such as GitHub, Flickr, YouTube and Stack Overflow; nothing is loaded from them until you follow a link, and from then on their own privacy notices apply. The connection to this site is encrypted (HTTPS).
Blog (blog.0x17.de). The blog is a static site without a contact form or comments. The share buttons under each post are plain links; nothing is loaded from those services until you click one, and then that service receives the address of the article and your IP address, and its own privacy notice applies. The light/dark setting is stored only in your browser (localStorage), is required for that function and is not transmitted anywhere. Images on the blog are loaded from www.0x17.de, which is covered by this notice.
Apart from the hosting provider named above, no data is passed to third parties, and no data is transferred outside the EU.
5. Keine Cookies, kein Tracking, keine Dritten
Diese Website setzt keine Cookies, betreibt keine Analyse und lädt keine Schriften, Skripte, Bilder oder sonstigen Ressourcen von fremden Servern. Es gibt Links zu externen Seiten wie GitHub, Flickr, YouTube und Stack Overflow; von dort wird nichts geladen, bevor Sie einem Link folgen, und ab dann gelten deren eigene Datenschutzhinweise. Die Verbindung zu dieser Seite ist verschlüsselt (HTTPS).
Blog (blog.0x17.de). Der Blog ist eine statische Seite ohne Kontaktformular und ohne Kommentare. Die Teilen-Schaltflächen unter den Beiträgen sind einfache Links; von diesen Diensten wird nichts geladen, bis Sie klicken, und dann erhält der jeweilige Dienst die Adresse des Beitrags und Ihre IP-Adresse; es gelten dessen eigene Datenschutzhinweise. Die Hell/Dunkel-Einstellung wird nur in Ihrem Browser (localStorage) gespeichert, ist für diese Funktion erforderlich und wird nirgendwohin übertragen. Bilder im Blog werden von www.0x17.de geladen, das von dieser Erklärung erfasst ist.
Außer an den oben genannten Hoster werden keine Daten an Dritte weitergegeben und keine Daten in Länder außerhalb der EU übermittelt.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access the personal data I hold about you (Art. 15), to have it rectified (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to receive it in a portable format (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). To exercise these rights, e-mail me at the address above.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77), for example the one responsible for your place of residence. A list of the German authorities is published by the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection at bfdi.bund.de.
6. Ihre Rechte
Nach der DSGVO haben Sie das Recht auf Auskunft über die zu Ihrer Person gespeicherten Daten (Art. 15), auf Berichtigung (Art. 16), Löschung (Art. 17), Einschränkung der Verarbeitung (Art. 18), Datenübertragbarkeit (Art. 20) und Widerspruch gegen eine auf berechtigtes Interesse gestützte Verarbeitung (Art. 21). Zur Ausübung dieser Rechte genügt eine E-Mail an die oben genannte Adresse.
Außerdem haben Sie das Recht, sich bei einer Datenschutz-Aufsichtsbehörde zu beschweren (Art. 77), etwa bei der für Ihren Wohnort zuständigen. Eine Liste der deutschen Behörden veröffentlicht der Bundesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz unter bfdi.bund.de.
